Captain Slackship's Mezzanine Allstars
A 10 track dub ep (58m 1s) — released May 9th 2011 on Aniligital Music
With an impressive girth of thirteen nautical allstars, Captain Slack are determined to deliver dubbed out reggae the way it was intended, complete with afro-jamaican percussion, melodica and the warmth of a full and hearty brass section as well as a treasure chest full of glittering dub samples and technological jewels.
It may surprise you to find that most of the crew of this Clyde built vessel are born and bred in Glasgow, Scotland. Their sound however is anchored firmly in the principles of Jamaican music with a uniquely Scottish twist in the lyrics and more than a dash of wry.
This is a band for those who love reggae and those who didn't know it yet!
Eclectic hip hop and electronic producers, Monkeytribe, sweep back on the scene with a no
nonsense drum and bass take on Bloody Weather. The legends that are Mungo's Hi-Fi leave more than a taste of King Tubby in your mouth with their Jack Knife Dub. Sace, one of the original pioneers of Scottish hip hop stamps his trademark rimshot remix style on his dubbed out version of Tell Me. Glasgow's finest underground electronic duo Irian Jaya chip in with an epic take on Bringing my knife. Thomas the Search Engine, a member of the band shows his true colours with a deliciously spacey dubstep take on Bloody Weather. Asibo, curator of departure lounge in Edinburgh, represents with a hard hitting, bass heavy carnival classic take on Tell Me. And Tal M Klein, San Fransico's drunk funk champion, fuses disco and dub with 303's and cosmic flute on his mix of Bloody Weather.
